AS CONGRESS PREPARES MORE TAX CUTS FOR THE WEALTHY, WILL CLAUDIA TENNEY SIDE WITH HER DONORS AGAIN?

House Republicans are preparing another round of tax cuts for their wealthy donors, and will vote for the package of bills later this week. But new analyses show the plan would be a repeat of the first round of tax cuts, ballooning the deficit while giving the wealthiest in the country a major handout. An analysis by the nonpartisan Center on Budget and Policy Priorities found that under the new plan, the richest 1 percent of households would receive an average tax cut of $32,650. Meanwhile the bottom 60 percent of households would get an average tax cut of just $340.

While median household income in NY-22 has dropped nearly $2,000 from 2016 - 2017, these tax cuts would be another giveaway to the rich that leaves working families behind.

“After Claudia Tenney voted for a disastrous tax plan that will give corporations and her rich donors 83% of the benefits, her constituents deserve to know what she thinks of this new plan,” said Anthony Brindisi. “With trillions more in our national debt at stake and a plan that does little for most of her constituents, Claudia Tenney is clearly hoping this vote flies under the radar. But her constituents deserve to know: will she side with her rich donors again?”

The new tax cuts would also explode the national debt, adding $3.8 trillion to deficit on top of the nearly $2 trillion from the first tax package passed in January. House leadership has already made clear that cuts to Medicare and Social Security are on the horizon to pay for the first package. And while corporations spent nearly $1 trillion on stock buybacks this year, workers’ wages have fallen. This new plan would bring more of the same. Seniors and working people in NY-22 clearly cannot afford another tax package like this.
