AHEAD OF DEBATE AT COLGATE UNIVERSITY, TENNEY CALLS COLGATE A “LEFT WING CRAZY SCHOOL”

At a campaign event on Monday, Claudia Tenney had some choice words for her alma mater, Colgate University. When asked about the state of higher education in the district, Tenney tore into Colgate. “I went to Colgate, I graduated 35 years ago. I thought it was a left wing crazy school, and now it’s even worse,” Tenney said. Her comments came just days before Tenney is set to attend the Spectrum News debate on Thursday at Colgate University.

“As a proud alumnus of Colgate University, Claudia Tenney’s comments are offensive and insulting,” said Ellen Foster, campaign manager for Anthony Brindisi. “She insulted not only the community of students and graduates who owe their success to Colgate, but the wonderful staff and faculty who make Colgate one of the top universities in the country. Anyone who has spent time on Colgate's campus knows the student body is thoughtful and diverse; it's a shame Tenney is not accurately representing our community. Tenney should apologize immediately.”

“Colgate University’s top-notch reputation draws people from all over the country to the 22nd Congressional District,” said Erica Borsack, a Colgate alumnus and finance director for Anthony Brindisi. “Demeaning the school as a ‘left wing crazy school’ hurts this community, and it’s another example of the unacceptable divisive rhetoric Claudia Tenney turns to every chance she gets.”
